If there’s one area of a house needing updating that sellers absolutely have to put right, it’s carpeting. I’ve seen the dingiest, most awful houses absolutely transformed by spending a couple of thousand pounds in their local carpet shop. A clean, neutral carpet in a light colour will add so much light and space, you won’t recognise the place. If you know someone who’s trying to sell a house with a carpet like this, point them in the direction of my blog… please……
So, time for more horrors…… prepare to be bowled over by these colourful catastrophes.

I visit a lot of properties that are just about to go to market (I carry out EPCs) and I’m sure I’ve seen far worse out there. People quite happily repaint their walls and think the rooms are now fresh and appealing but the carpets, which buyers often see as integral to the property, are often quite horrendous! And to be honest, the carpets are sometimes so awful it’s hard to drag your eyes from them to the genuinely attractive features in the property.
Hello Joan, I bet you’ve seen some horrors! You’re absolutely right in that it’s very difficult for a buyer to concentrate on the house they’re viewing, if there’s something so distracting as a vividly patterned carpets. The viewers really need help in focusing on the right elements of the house, neutrality will help the positive features really stand out. Thanks for sharing! Sam
